There are numerous statistical packages on the market today that have enormous functionality. Their sophistication has grown since the packages first appeared back in the 1970s. Today, they can be run on desktop computers and can handle most any regression or statistical analysis. So why write another program? There is a need to reduce some of the complexity of these large statistical packages. If all you want to do is an ANOVA, or a simple linear regression, then you should not have to attend week-long workshops on how to use a particular statistical package.
